CACT Summer Conference
The 1997 California Association of Chemistry Teachers Summer Conference will be held at Crown College, University of California-Santa Cruz, on August 3-7, 1997. The topic of this year's conference, Oxygen Chemistry, encompasses many research fields, including toxicology, biochemistry, physical chemistry, earth and marine sciences, and environmental chemistryall connected through the chemistry of oxygen. There will be a series of lectures on oxygen chemistry by Don Sawyer (Texas A & M University) and Alex Sevanian (School of Molecular Pharmacology & Toxicology, University of Southern California); Stanley Sander (Jet Propulsion Laboratory and UCLA) will present topics from his course on mid-atmospheric chemistry and his research on ozone. Other planned activities are a lecture on the origins of oxygen on earth, a CACT summer party, a winery tour, and a session titled "Success Stories: Chemistry Activities That Teach".
