June 2001
Vol. 78 No. 6
p. 847

Full Text
General Chemistry Collection contains 27 tried and tested JCE Software programs that are intended for use by introductory-level chemistry students. These peer-reviewed programs for Macintosh and for Windows are available on a single CD-ROM for convenient distribution to and access by students. The CD may be adopted for students to purchase as they would a textbook. General Chemistry Collection covers a broad range of topics providing interesting information, tutorials, and simulations that will be useful to students studying chemistry for the first time.

The titles of the programs included in General Chemistry Collection 5th edition and the general chemistry topics they cover are listed in Table 1.

New Features in This Edition

General Chemistry Collection, 5th edition includes all of the programs from the 4th edition (1) with these additions:

  • ChemPages Laboratory LE (2)
  • General Chemistry Multimedia Problems LE (3)
  • Inorganic Molecules: A Visual Database (Mac OS only) (4)

Limited Editions (LE) consist of selected portions from the respective JCE Software CD-ROMs. They are useful for students "as is" and provide a good introduction to the full versions of the JCE Software CD-ROMs. Solid State Resources LE (5) included in this collection was named Solid State Resources Movies in previous editions.

Licensing, Volume Discounts for Adoptions

General Chemistry Collection is intended for use by individual students. Institutions and faculty members may adopt General Chemistry Collection 5th edition as they would a textbook. We can arrange for CDs to be custom packaged with laboratory manuals or other course materials or to be sold to students through the campus bookstore. The cost per CD can be quite low when large numbers are ordered (as little as $3 each), making this a cost-effective method of providing students access to the software they need whenever and wherever they desire. Network licenses to distribute the software to your students via your local campus network can also be arranged. Contact us for details on purchasing multiple user licenses.

Chemistry Teacher Connection

The "Chemistry Teacher Connection" (CTC) is especially for high school chemistry teachers. For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year. CTC subscribers receive access to all articles and supplements from 1996 through the current issue.

C&EN CLICs

Through special arrangement with the ACS, JCE High School CLIC is now able to provide subscribers with online access to Chemical & Engineering News articles that have been selected specifically for secondary science instructors and their students.

JCE Collections Available
Occasionally, collections of JCE back issues become available for donation to individual teachers, schools, or libraries. JCE matches collections with interested recipients. Recipients pay shipping costs or pick up the collection.
