This site contains an interactive periodic table which describes the research and uses of each of the elements, including properties, safety data and applications. It is a commercial site, but the scientific information is useful to educators. (5/2009)
Click on an element and get its history, sources, uses, isotopes, properties, and other information. Some other resources from this site are an alphabetical list of the elements, Mendeleev's Table, a section on how to use a periodic table, and more. (5/2009)
In addition to general information about the states, appearance, characteristics, and reactivities of the elements, there are also links to Encyclopedia Britannica articles. However, to access the complete articles from the links, one must sign up for a free trial or pay for an online subscription. The site also provides a brief overview of periodic trends. (5/2009)
Allows you to hear the name of elements (need Sound Machine), listen to and read information about the history and uses of each element (need Real Player), and view a few Quicktime movies of reactions. Offers information on uses, compounds, crystal structures, and electronic, physical, and nuclear properties along with photographs. (5/2009)
If you have your own favorite site and would like to see it added to the list of CLIC's reviewed WWW sites, please contact us.
Chemistry Teacher Connection
The "Chemistry Teacher Connection" (CTC) is especially for high school chemistry teachers. For only $40/year, it offers an online-only subscription to CLIC along with membership in the Division of Chemical Education, normally $65/year. CTC subscribers receive access to all articles and supplements from 1996 through the current issue.
Through special arrangement with the ACS, JCE High School CLIC is now able to provide subscribers with online access to Chemical & Engineering News articles that have been selected specifically for secondary science instructors and their students.
Occasionally, collections of JCE back issues become available for donation to individual teachers, schools, or libraries. JCE matches collections with interested recipients. Recipients pay shipping costs or pick up the collection.
