Living Textbooks for Chemistry

JCE LrnCom Online
Mission Statement
The mission of the JCE LivTexts collection is to make available to instructors of chemistry a coherent and organized body of materials that can be easily incorporated into the classroom and disseminated to students. The collection also aims to support those who need to learn topics in chemistry independently as background for their work in other fields of science such as biology, geology, etc. Items in the JCE LivTexts collection differ from other JCE DLib resources in that their coverage of a particular area of chemistry is of the same breadth and scope as a textbook. JCE LivTexts differ from traditional textbooks because they include interactivity and moving media to help in the exploration of each topic.

* Concept Development Studies in Chemistry

John Hutchinson

Concept Development Studies in Chemistry is an on-line textbook for a general chemistry course. Each module develops a central concept in chemistry from experimental observations and inductive reasoning. This approach complements an interactive or active learning teaching approach. The 17 chapters are associated with the general chemistry course taught by the author at Rice University.

David Hanson, Theresa Julia Zielinski, Erica Harvey, and Robert Sweeney

Quantum States of Atoms and Molecules is an introduction to quantum mechanics as it relates to spectroscopy, the electronic structure of atoms and molecules, and molecular properties. A digital, living textbook, it provides opportunities not found in conventional textbooks—opportunities that allow students to develop skills in information processing, critical thinking or analytical reasoning, and problem solving that are so important for success.
