Writing Conceptual Questions (CQs): Modified Recall Question
Modify a question that simply requires recall of information so it asks the student to translate the concept behind the information to another format, to interpret the information, or to extrapolate the information to a new setting.

Example
Original question: Define a mixture.

Modified question: Circle the diagram or diagrams that represent a mixture. In these figures the symbol  represents a single atom of a certain type, the symbol  represents a single atom of another type. If the symbols for atoms touch, they are part of a molecule.
