When running on a Mac OS-compatible computer, some text is difficult to read.
If Dynamic Visualization in Chemistry is run on a Macintosh computer that does not have the Arial font installed, the system will substitute Geneva font. This substitution makes some text unreadable.
Arial is included in standard installations of both Windows and Mac OS 8 and 9. Macintosh users who used a customized installation to install Mac OS 8 or 9 that did not include the Internet Access option, and have not previously installed Microsoft Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, may not have Arial installed. You can install Arial from your Mac OS system installation CD without installing any other software by following the directions beneath this table.
Installing the Arial font
Insert your Mac OS system installation CD (for OS 8 or 9) into the computer's CD-ROM drive.
Press Command-F on the keyboard or select Find... from the File menu.
Search for the file name "Arial" on the CD-ROM.
When you have located the Arial font suitcase, drag it from the CD to the top of your closed System Folder. If you have installed OS X on your computer, be sure to drag the Arial font suitcase to the OS 9 (Classic) System Folder not to the OS X System folder.
If your are running Mac OS 8 or 9, click OK when asked for permission to place Arial in the Fonts folder. If you are running OS X, click Continue when asked for permission to put items where they belong.
If Dynamic Visualization in Chemistry is running, quit it. The next time you start Dynamic Visualization in Chemistry, text should be displayed properly.
Refer to the "Read Me" file on the CD for specific instructions. On Windows computers, the file is named ReadMe.wri. On Mac OS computers, the file is named Read Me First!
There is no "main installer" or setup program for Dynamic Visualization in Chemistry. To use the CD, all you need is QuickTime, Acrobat Reader to view documentation, and the Arial font. In most cases the font will already be installed on your computer (see above).
