The Transformative Learning theory of Jack Mezirow contains elements that are important in the teaching of science. The key problem in learning relates to the creation and use of valid meanings to interpret the world. This is done in different ways, only some of which use hypothesis testing and deduction. Instead, learning in other modes, including those affected by interpersonal communication and the view of one's self, are considered. The role of reflective thinking in changing meanings to a more inclusive and valid view is also discussed.

Our Secondary School editors work hard to distill all the JCE materials to produce a fraction of particular interest to high school teachers. We call it CLIC.
In recent years we have worked hard to better match our advertisers with our readers. When shopping for chemistry education materials, visit our advertisers' WWW sites first.
Take JCE along on your outreach missions. Copies of the Journal, guest access to JCE Online, our publications catalog, and more are available for your participants.
