Abstract
I discuss the development of a course on the history of physical chemistry, with an emphasis on writing. Although this course was developed to meet a university writing requirement, the course is designed to involve students in the organization through free-flowing, student-led discussion. This format presents an opportunity to discuss opinions about current and historical questions related to physical chemistry, chemistry in general, and the role of the profession in society. In addition, the focus on history provides a means to "humanize" a subject students frequently approach with fear and trepidation.
