Molecular Borromean Rings. Borromean rings are three interlocked rings that rely on the presence of all three components to stay together. In the article by Stoddart and co-workers, students synthesize a Borromean link in molecular form during a laboratory project that incorporates synthetic organic, physical organic, inorganic, metallo-organic, supramolecular, and dynamic covalent chemistry. As shown on the cover, the Borromean rings can be represented in many ways: as a planar Venn diagram, in an orthogonal arrangement, and with a chemical twist (where the transition metals are imbedded in the nodes, or binding sites). In addition, an X-ray crystal structure of the synthesized Borromean rings is depicted in a tubular and a space-filling representation.

The cover was designed by Betsy True.
